"Looking for an out of the ordinary kind of experience?

Venture to the enchanting Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery"

Located in Sha Tin, the Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery has been around since 1949. It was founded by Yuet Kai, a Buddhist who zealously hauled heavy construction materials from the base of a mountain all the way to the top. After 10 years, the exquisite monastery was complete. Upon his death, Yuet Kai’s mummified body was preserved and can now be found in the temple's main hall.

Visitors will have to climb 431 steps on the way up to the monastery. While walking up gaze upon the life-sized Arhan statues, which are embellished in gold paint. The diverse statues all bare different emotions and features, representing the copious human experiences when undergoing the quest for enlightenment.

Upon reaching the monastery, admire the spacious grounds of the complex which include some wonderful temples and shrines, elegant pavilions and a nine-storey pagoda. For refreshments, head over to the local café, only a stone’s throw from the entrance. Also, look out for panoramic views of the lush New Territories!

Within the Main Hall, you'll find 13,000 mini gold Buddha statues lining the walls of the temple.

It's quite an impressive sight.

The 18 Arhat Gallery is a collection of varied Arhan Statues nearby the main temple worth pondering. There are several religious pavilions, one being dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Gwun Yum. Climb up to the top of the impressive pagoda. Though there are no views at the top, take a look out of the windows, where a Buddha sits on each windowsill.

Once you've explored the main complex area, continue the stairs up towards the second level and explore the rest of the incredible Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery.
