Hi there, I'm Charlotte

I'm the creator of Live HK. Born and raised in the "Fragrant Harbour", I have been a Hong Kong local as long as I can remember.

I've always been curious. While I was in high school, I started feeling an urge to explore my city. Every week I'd do something different around HK and I really enjoyed it, especially hiking. I loved how I could escape the obligations of normal life and do something for myself. Don't get me wrong, I still worked hard at school but I discovered how to balance my lifestyle and it was the best thing I ever learnt.

When I was just 16, I took my first independent trip abroad to Japan. That trip changed me. Besides picking up valuable life skills, I found confidence, became global-minded, and most importantly, appreciative of my surroundings.

Now in my 20's, I've since seen and experienced 30 breathtaking countries across the globe from Bermuda to Russia to IndonesiaYet, there's no place like home.

The HK Tourism Board brands themselves as "Asia's World City" and I have to admit, the city is awesome.

City-dwellers can eat their hearts out at an incredible eatery, stroll the city's art galleries and museums, wonder about Buddhism at a temple or join in on the city's hottest events.

But there is more to the story. What if I told you 3/4 of land in HK is rural, would you believe me?  With over 263 islands, 40 hiking trails, 41 beaches, 37 parks and gardens, the opportunities of places to go are endless. Hike by wild monkeys at Kam Shan Country Park, take a boat to Cheung Chau island for fresh seafood, relax in the white-sand paradise of Tai Long Wan beach, go strawberry picking in the country side fields or explore the relics of a World War Two bunker.

The list goes on and on.

I've spent my lifetime exploring HK. I strive to inspire others to do the same and benefit from it just as I have.

I have to admit that finding out where to go is never easy.  It takes up so much time and in between work, family and commitments, time is of the essence. I needed a useful source that would make planning one-of-a-kind outings easy. And this is how the idea for Live HK came about.

"Live HK was created by a local, for a local". This means that Live HK caters to the interests of local residents, as well as adventurous travellers looking to go off-the-beaten-path. Instead of listing well-known tourist attractions, the HK GUIDE focuses on unique destinations everyone can visit in their pass time.

The website is designed to be interactive and visual. Choose from categories that suit who you are as an individual. Whether you're a city-goer, nature enthusiast, island lover or adventurer, there's something for you.
