"Find your zen at the blissful Nan Lian Garden"

Nan Lian Garden is a spacious, one-way circular route amongst magnificent landscapes, gorgeous wooden architecture and insightful exhibitions. So tranquil and heavenly are the gardens, you’d forget you were ever in a thriving, modern cosmopolitan.

In the Nan Lian Garden, all natural elements such as water, trees and rocks are perfectly placed according to rules of Tang Dynasty style. This creates a sense of vastness and encourages a connection with the universe. To learn more about harmony with nature, visitors can visit the Rockery, a display of rocks from Guangxi’s Red River and the Penjing Garden, an aesthetic collection of miniature trees.

You can also visit an exhibition in the Chinese Timber Architectural Gallery. Here you will learn how structures in the garden were built without nails through an age-old technique of using wooden dowels and brackets.

As you walk through the impressive Xiang Hai Xuan (“house surrounded by a sea of fragrance”), you’ll notice the smells of orange-jasmine, lily and osmanthus from the scented trees at nearby Fragrance Hill. At a small cost, amble through one of the ever-changing cultural exhibitions hosted in the building’s hall.

By the Blue Pond is the intricate, timber Song Cha Xie, “The Pine Teahouse”. For many in China, tea drinking is a way of life. Take a seat in the peaceful teahouse and sip on quality Wuyi Yan Cha tea served from your own traditional teapot.

Subtly hidden behind the cascading Silver Strand waterfall is the Chi Lin Vegetarian Restaurant, serving lunch, afternoon tea and dinner using time-honored recipes and fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Finally, visitors can also admire the glistening, golden Pavilion of Absolute Perfection and it’s octagonal lotus pond, a real delight for the eyes!
