With so much traffic around the city, cycling in HK may seem like a deathtrap. However, tucked away in the distant North East of HK, Tai Mei Tuk's safe biking trails offer cyclists a sigh of relief.

Choose a bike from the various rental shops just by the bus stop, costing about $40 per hour or $90 per day (until around 6:30pm). You will find bike paths and street signs guiding cyclists on their desired routes. You really can go any direction and just explore.

Most riders make their way to Plover Clove Reservoir, cycling across a massive dam, packed with fellow bikers and happy kite flyersIf it's too crowded and you want something more peaceful, head over to the traditional fishing village of Sam Mun Tsai.

Delve into the timeless alleyways of the village, appreciating the local Tanka people and their lifestyles. Look out for floating villages along the waterfront and take a peek into the small museum depicting the coastal history of the village. Other points of interest include the Ma Shi Chau Nature Trail, a rugged 1.5km walk

part of the Hong Kong Geopark.

On the way back towards Tai Mei Tuk, stop by one of the restaurants. There's a Thai restaurant nearby the bus station. There are also several DIY BBQ restaurants lining Ting Kok Road. Each table has their own grill at Bahia Restaurant Chung King BBQ, serving a variety of seafood, meat and vegetable dishes. The all-you-can-eat buffet costs $150 per person for 3 hours.
